Winners and Losers of MLB Trade Deadline

Well, July 31st has finally past, and here is who came out on top and teams that did not improve their teams.

Winners-

Rangers- Added a elite pitcher in Cliff Lee and got really nice deals in Jorge Cantu and Christian Guzman.

Phillies- With Oswalt, they now have 3 dangerous pitchers, who will be tough to beat in a playoff series. Problem is, can they reach October?

Padres- Miguel Tejada and Ryan Ludwick were under the radar moves, but were excellent deals to help San Diego reach the playoffs.

Losers-

Royals and Brewers- Both had a chance to rebuild with young talent and unload some over payed veterans, but both stood pat as the deadline came and went.

  1. What about the Yankees? they grabbed Berkman and Kearns. Only had to give up a little for em too. And I dont know bout Oswalt. Even though he was on the Astros all year, hes been roughed up. He doesnt have a good record (probably the run production) but remember that the Phillies havent had amazing run production at all this year. ANd he got pretty well beaten in his first start the other day. I think the loser was the Nationals. THey werent able to get rid of dunn or sign him to an extension. Thats not good

  2. Oswalt's run support is the lowest in the majors. The Phillies have a ton of power and he will grow more comfortable pitching with all the support he gets. The Nationals will get two top draft picks if they can't keep Dunn, which is always good for a young team.

  3. I know that the Astros didn't help Oswalt at all with run support but we've seen all year that the phillies aren't always capable of scoring either. Howard can't carry the whole team. Although if the phillies make the playoffs, I feel that they would have the best playoff rotation with halladay oswalt and hamels. They can pitch those three and still win it all

  4. Once the Phillies are healthy, its hard for any team to come close to them offensively. The Yank's deals are overrated in my mind. Berkman was having a sub-par year(.245 BA) and Wood is washed up.

  5. They filled up their DH need with Berkman. And he can play 1b or the outfield. that was huge and kearns will also help. I think you are wrong on this thatsportkid

  6. What overpayed veterans did the Royals have a chance to get rid of and same with the brewers?

  7. Berkman hasn't played the outfield in 4 years and he doesn't have a strong enough arm. Even though the Yankees made the most moves, that doesn't mean they are the winners. Sometimes its the moves you don't make. Corey Hart and Jose Guillen could of been unloaded, as those teams need young talent to rebuild.
