NFL Mid Season Awards

MVP- Michael Vick- Vick has led the Eagles to the NFC East division lead despite plenty of controversy in the early going of this year. The big stat is that he is 5-0 as the starter with no interceptions.
Offensive POTY- Roddy White- White and Matt Ryan look like Brady and Moss in '07, with White catching everything that is thrown towards him. #84 already has 7 TDs and over 1000 yards for the "Dirty Birds."
Defensive POTY- Clay Matthews- The second year LB out of USC has really strived with the blitzing scheme, as his sack total shows it at 11.5.
Offensive Rookie- Sam Bradford- The Rams actually have shown signs of life with Sam under center. Stephen Jackson has got to love with what he's seeing from him.
Defensive Rookie- Ndamukong Suh- The big D-lineman has been every as advertised, as the Lions have definitely found someone to build around on their defense.
Comeback- M.Vick- Another award for Mr. Vick, as this one is all but racked up for Vick.
Coach- Mike Tomlin- Well, Brad Childress is definitely not getting this award. But in all seriousness, you can't not like with where Tomlin has this team, especially starting the season with no Big Ben.

  1. BORING! Why don't you write something interesting? Or how about putting mote than two sentences together in a row? Phillips Rivers should be MVP, not Vick. Look at the numbers he is putting up with crappy receivers. He's on pace to break Marino's passing yards record. I dare you, argue for Vick over Rivers

  2. I only need 1 sentence: he's on a winning team. Stats do count big time, but if the chargers were to finish 7-9 and rivers put up record setting numbers, vick would still win easily if he keeps managing games well for the divsion leading eagles and gets them into the playoffs. MVP is your ability to win games for your team while putting up big numbers for yourself. Rivers fits one of those categories, vick fits both. If rivers gets San Diego into the playoffs, then there's going to be a good debate.

  3. That is flawed thinking. Look a Vick's situation: a great offensive coach with several dynamic weapons and a solid team that was good before this year. Phillips Rivers has dragged his team to 5-5 with a special teams that is historically dreadful and has killed them in several games. His other offensive players have lost 10 fumbles and not to mention River already has 3000 passing yards with guys like Crayton M. Floyd and Buster Davis. Gates has battled injuries all year long. He is 4th in DYAR and Vick isn't even in the top ten. The Eagles won two games w/o Vick, including a thrashing of Atlanta in which Kolb threw 3 TDs. How can you be MVP if your team looks that good without you? The.Bolts would he 0-9 without Rivers but they are sitting at 5-5 with a nice schedule to vault them into the playoffs. Case Closed.

  4. You make good points but Rivers won't win if they don't make the playoffs or finish in contention. Rivers has to have overwhelming stats, which he is close to but he needs to blow by Marino's mark, especially if the Chargers don't make the playoffs. You also can't base MVP off how other parts of your team do, you have to base it as a whole. You can't say, " o well if the defense stopped them, we would've won" No, the MVP is how well your stats and contributions to the team help them win, and Mike Vick's team is winning now. No 0-16 player would ever win the MVP, even if they threw for 10,00 yards and 70 Tds.

  5. Yeah, but Vick's team isn't winning just because of him. He has a good running back, great receivers, and a solid o-line. His special teams or defense doesn't kill him. Of course his team is winning. And Rivers is winning too, without nearly as much help as Vick. His special teams is the worst EVER (no joke, it's really that bad), his left tackle held out for the first five games of the season, and his receiving core would be solid for a UFL team. And yet, him team is 5-5 because of what Rivers is doing. He is having a career season despite all the adversity surrounding him. Vick would not be having the season he's having if he didn't have such great playmakers around him. How do I know this? Look at his stat-line from the Atlanta days when he was throwing to Brian Finneran and Algae Crumpler:
    2004 (15 games): 2,313 yards, 14 TDs, 12 INTs, 78.1 rating, 902 rushing yards (3 TDs)
    2005 (15 games): 2,412 yards, 15 TDs, 13 INTs, 73.1 rating, 597 rushing yards (6 TDs)
    2006 (16 games): 2,474 yards, 20 TDs, 13 INTs, 75.7 rating, 1,039 rushing yards (2 TDs)
not great. Rivers already has 3000 yard and he still has 6 games left. You could even argue Rivers' receivers were worse than what Vick had in Atlanta. I can make an arguement based off the other parts of the team. What would happen if both Vick and Rivers were replaced by an average QBs (say, Jason Cambell). there is no way the Chargers win a game with Cambell instead of Rivers. The Eagles? They would still be a good football team. Look at how good Philly's offense made McNabb look last year. Now? He's terrible. Vick is simply in the better situation and that's why his team is winning more. And Phillip Rivers is making the best of a bad situation and will lead his team to the playoffs because of his brilliance.

  6. First of all, Sports Kid, you are getting blown out of the water. your point (really, you only have one) is weak. Rex Grossman once had a year where he was "managinggames well for the division leading" bears. Your point? PLus, I can't believe your not buying San Diego as a playoff team. They are eight in team DVOA, are only one back of the division leader with a Head2Head matchup with them in San Diego, and a relatively easy schedule left. The MVP has to be THE BIGGEST REASON why a team wins. It is obvious Rivers is the biggest reason his team is good, but Vick has other teammates who are making contributions to their winning. You are also forgetting this team was good without Vick

  7. I think we are forgetting that this is for the mid-season MVP, not the MVP of the entire season. Vick, with what he has overcome, and how he has handled the starting QB situation with Kolb would be my favorite to win right now. Still plenty of football to go though.

  8. Vick overcoming what he has come and how he handled the starting QB situation doesn't make him the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER. It makes him sportsman of the year or comeback player of the year. Keeping your team in the playoff race, putting up mind boggling numbers and being your teams enitre offense makes you the most valuable. That describes Rivers, not Vick. Your argument is weak, you have no evidence to back up any of your points (which you really don't have at all. I think anyone would agree I won the arguement. And no, I'm not forgetting this is mid-season MVP. Based on what I've seen this year, Rivers has been more valuable than Vick. Thank You

  9. ok and what i'm saying is where Vick has his team now he definitely would have it locked up today. No MVP award is going to be awarded to a losing team. How can you be MVP of the league when your record is only .500. Even if the record doesn't resemble River's numbers, there is no way a losing team has a player win MVP, no matter how bad your special teams are or how injuries affect you. Again, this is mid-season and if Rivers get the Chargers into the playoffs then he has an outstanding shot to win if he keeps piling up the stats.

  10. They are not a losing team!! They are .500! The Eagles would still be a playoff team if they had an average QB instead of Vick. The Chargers would be 1-9 without Rivers!!! Rivers makes a bigger difference than Vick on his respective team! That's the definition of MVP! The way you think is completely stupid. Rivers' feats and where he has his team are more impressive because of how crappy his special teams and his offensive weapons have been. Would you want the Eagles offense (minus Vick) or the Chargers offense (minus Rivers)? The Eagles in a heartbeat. Would you rather have thew entire Eagles offense or the entire Chargers offense? You definitely had to think about that one. See how introducing the QBs into the equation changed the dynamic? Rivers' season SO FAR has been more impressive and you HAVE TO account for the hurdles he has had to overcome in accomplishing what he has done.
